MALINDI: Sir Ali Bin Salim Primary School celebrated its constant success for the last five years. The school originally known as ‘The Arab School’ was built in 1914 and was the first school in Kilifi County, formerly known as Kilifi District. It later changed its name and adopted the founder’s name ‘Sir Ali.’ For several past decades, the school has performed poorly due to mismanagement. In 2006, the then area District Commissioner Ann Ng’etich wanted to close the school due to its dismal performance. Muslim youths led by Ustadh Athman Ali Said Malindi KMYA chairman intervened by taking over management of the institution with the ‘blessings’ of the the ministry of education. Out of 40 primary schools in the district, Sir Ali Bin Salim took position eight in the years 2010 and 2011 respectively with a mean score of 203.9. It was voted the most improved public school. “The results were not good as such, however, now we are not only improving but competing with the rest of the county,” said the school chairman Athman Ali during the prize giving day for the 2011 candidates.
