New converts observe fast as Islam spreads in Maasailand

guineaThis year’s Ramadhan in Maasailand was observed with increased enthusiasm as more people continued to embrace the religion of Islam. At Shartuka Islamic Centre in Narok County, about 40 new converts to Islam underwent a full month residential crash course on basic teachings of Islam. The youths performed daily obligatory prayers and the Tarawih prayer led by 17 year old Hafiz Ismail ole Nchaiyua(the first Maasai Hafizul Quran in East Africa)). Lectures were conducted by resident Imam Ustadh Ramadhan Saleh Kahaso. Iftar was also served in the mosque to all participants during Maghrib prayers while needy families within the area were also assisted with food rations for their daily home Iftar and suhur. About 50 needy women and children also benefited from cloth donations in form of buibuis and khangas. The program was organized by Shartuka Islamic Centre committee with sponsorship from Danish Muslim Aid, Denmark and several local well wishers.
